I am passionate about the power of movement. When I was a kid, I was always moving. I played lots of sports and remember going out for jogs just to burn off steam. What stuck with me as I got older was how much better I felt when I exercised! I could think and focus better. I was more relaxed and not so stressed. I felt better about my body and how I looked. I even felt stronger, confident and more sure of myself.
Now, as a health coach of 13 years and pursuing a master’s in psychology, I’m excited to offer classes that help youth 1) feel strong and confident in their bodies and 2) understand how physical health is connected to mental and emotional health. The goal is to empower youth through movement, connection, and self-understanding. Each 90 minute (cell phone-free) class will include a 45 – 60 minute strength & conditioning workout. The workout is inclusive and individualized to help each young person feel strong and confident, no matter their fitness level. A 20 – 30 minute mat session will follow and include inward connection practices to promote body awareness, improve self-regulation and reduce stress and anxiety. Mat sessions will include guided stretch postures, breath work, gratitude, and mindfulness practice.
The social climate of our youth continues to be more demanding and complex than ever before. As inactivity and isolation become the new normal, we are presented with an opportunity to pause and get intentional about our kid’s wellbeing. Equipping youth to know themselves confidently, relate to others intentionally and have a positive impact in our world is a BIG deal. After all, each one of us is a big deal! And collectively, we are made to move and created for connection.
